Jenny Craig Diet Program

The Jenny Craig DietJenny Craig sells a branded range of pre-packaged, single serving foods called Jenny Cuisine. Jenny Craig states that the reason behind this pre-packaged food is to coach participants about healthy nourishment and to exercise self-control in serving sizes.

In addition to the pre-packaged meals and snacks or desserts, you will also be eating fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products that you purchase at your usual market.

Cost of the Jenny Craig Plan

At first, you might think that the Jenny Craig plan is very expensive. It’s quite hard to put a finger on the exact cost on any plan, because plans vary according to the individual’s needs. Because of this, their web site does not divulge many pricing details.

Jenny Craig usually has some sort of special offer being run for the initial signup fee. Currently (March 2010), it is $20 for 20 pounds. The charges for the Jenny Craig maintenance plan can be as lofty as $300, taking into consideration the program you are on. And then, you also need to purchase the food included in the plan, that costs at around $12 to $18 a day, apart from the fruits, veggies, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and add-ons you need to consume to maintain a balanced diet. You will also have to buy a 7-day supply of food as soon as you join, no matter which program you choose.

But, if you consider the amount you spend on over-eating now, plus the potential health-related costs later, perhaps the cost for the Jenny Craig diet program is not so great. Jenny Craig dieters, on average, spend just $1 a day more on Jenny’s Cuisine than the typical American spends on food, according to the U.S. resident food expenditures as reported by USDA, Economic Research Service. Food CPE, Prices and Expenditures, Table 15 Per Capita food Expenditures: 1953 to 2007 (adjusted 4.5% for inflation to reflect 2008 expenditures).

At Home Program

Jenny Craig started in 1983 by providing frozen meals to its clients as a means of food management. It has since branched out into cookbooks and services that lead clients to make food choices from readily available foods, as well as an at-home program for people who do not live close to an established center, or for those whose busy lifestyles make it difficult to find the time to visit their local center.

Meals are sent to you via UPS, and sessions are done personally, through online chat, or over the phone. Personal weekly consultations for motivation and behavior change are a central part of the program. There are also many online tools available for both at-home users, and walk-in users.

The Three Cornerstones of Health

Jenny Craig highlights weight control through routine enhancement. It primarily pays attention to your body, psyche, and meals by way of its very personalized diet plan. People often put on some extra weight because of junk food overload, inconsistent ways of living, anxiety, and despair. Today’s high-speed existence is bringing about a variety of illnesses like cardiac ailments and blood sugar disorders. Jenny Craig addresses these problems with what they call the three cornerstones of health.

Food

Following a specific time frame, weight watchers shift from eating Jenny Cuisine to preparing their own nutritious food, making use of the skills they gained from the diet plan. As they continue, dieters are still instructed to write down everything they eat, as well as any physical activity, and to stick with meeting with a counselor. The whole Jenny Craig Diet Plan is intended to help weight watchers shake off about one to two pounds a week. Weight watchers can call the Jenny Craig hotline anytime, any day if they require assistance or more info.

Body

Dieters are also instructed in how to build an active lifestyle by incorporating physical activity into their daily routines. This can include planned activities such as swimming, walking, or going to the gym, as well as natural activities like playing with their children, gardening, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Mind

A third focus is placed on developing a balanced approach to living. With the support of motivation-based consultations, dieters will identify their own personal weight-loss mindsets, and learn how to treat themselves well by taking time for self-care and celebrating the milestones they achieve.

Final Word

It is sensible to make use of natural means of weight loss compared with using drastic measures like starvation or diets that focus on only a few foods or cut out certain food groups altogether. In order to live a healthy and fit life, it is a necessity to lead a good lifestyle and Jenny Craig seems to offer just that.

I did the Jenny Craig diet a long time ago. I started out with a wonderful counselor that was so excite whenever I lost weight she acted like she had won the lottery. It made me feel like someone really really cared. Then she got promoted to a higher positon because she was so good. And the next counselor I had wasn’t as good. It made a huge difference in my motivation.
